The main piece of equipment used is portable hydraulic dredges. The types vary as they can go from diver assisted dredges to much larger cutter section units. To start, a diver-assisted dredge is pretty self-explanatory. This is a dredge that is done underwater, done by a trained diver who assists in the installation of this specific dredge. These are typically found in areas of water that need removal of impacted sediments while preserving layers underneath. The larger cutter section units come in two styles, cable driven and self-propelled. With the cable driven option, steel cables are used to move that cutter head from side to side, whereas the self-propelled one stays more stationary and does not move like the cable driven one does. 

There are also various special attachments that may end up being used on individual projects. Typically these include things that guard the dredges for safety concerns and keep the consumer from ending up with a ripped liner or membrane along their lined pond or lagoon. These special attachments and guards keep those smaller bodies of water better than before and do no damage to anything surrounding it.
