Contract Mining-Related Dredging

Contract Mining-Related Dredging

Contract mining by means of hydraulic dredging typically includes the dredging of virgin materials or the removal of tailings.

Our hydraulic dredges can be used to extract virgin cut material, such as sand or gravel, from a deposit below the existing water table. This material is pumped in slurry form to either an upland site or a washing and sizing plant. The material is washed to remove clays, slits, organics, and other impurities while it is sized to produce various construction-related materials. The undesirable material that is removed during the washing and sizing is placed in a pond and referred to as "tailings."

Additionally, our hydraulic dredges can be used to remove these tailings, increasing freshwater storage capacity and aiding in future reclamation activities. Mine tailings can then be pumped to an offline pond or spoil pit or dewatered for on-site placement or export.

C&M Dredging has an extensive background in mining and material recovery. Our staff is MSHA trained and certified and comfortable operating within the environment of today's mining operations. Our typical contract dredging projects within mining operations include:

  • services to aid in scaling volumes or augmenting production temporarily
  • dredging and remediation of tailings, water storage capacity improvement, and reclamation.
  • outsourced dredging portion of mining operations during startup.

Our Services

Industrial and Municipal Pond and Lagoon Dredging

Settling ponds and Lagoons are used in various industries and municipalities to remove solid particles and contaminants from wastewater. Dredging to remove this accumulated material improves the quality of the discharged water and preserves a settling pond’s effectiveness and storage capacity.

Site Development Dredging

Site development dredging involves excavating the bottom of a body of water to create or enhance a site. This service is typical for constructing harbors, marinas, ports, and other waterfront developments. Although often overlooked, in-shore land developers can also capitalize on the benefits of this type of dredging.

Environmental Restoration Dredging

C&M Dredging has successfully performed various environmental restoration dredging projects for both public and private clients. Unlike dredging for navigational improvement, environmental restoration dredging is typically performed with a single goal: improving the quality of a water body.

Navigable Waterway Maintenance Dredging

Local, State, and Federal government agencies (and private entities) are tasked with maintaining a set channel depth that changes from location to location to ensure safe passage for vessels navigating the area without running aground.

Geotextile Tube Dewatering

Geotextile tubes are utilized on a hydraulic dredging project to contain and dewater sediments, making them suitable for transport and disposal. One key benefit of this method is its efficiency in removing water from large volumes of suspended material.
